Cities are the future

With the F50 catamaran reaching eye-watering speeds of up to 100 km/h on the waters of Sydney, San Francisco, New York, Cowes and Copenhagen, these cities will no doubt be the center of epic challenges amongst the best nations of sailing teams.

People, technology and the power of nature are just some of the driving forces that the world’s best on-water athletes will need to harness to achieve victory.

And these challenges are also true for the cities that they race in. Today, some 3.9 billion people live in cities – and the urban population is expected to grow by another 2.5 billion by 2050, according to the United Nations World Urbanization Prospects.

Meanwhile, these densely populated and built-up areas are not realising their full potential to drive sustainable development and prosperity.
